Become The Leader
When you are working, do you
get upset because things don't seem to be getting
done? You see people standing around but nothing is
getting accomplished. Then maybe its time for you to
take the bull by the horns and do something about
it.
Most people are happy to stand
around waiting for instructions. It isn't
unusual for people to adopt a group
mentality. Somewhere in you, you feel the desire to
get things going – to be the leader, not the follower.
Then maybe being the leader would suit you.
Many people believe that great
leaders are born, not made. It may be true that some
people are born with natural leadership talent. But,
without practice, without drive, without enthusiasm, and
without experience, there can be no true development into
a good leader.
Good leaders are continually working and
studying to improve their natural skills. This takes a
commitment to constantly improve in whatever field a
person chooses.
To be a leader, one must be able to
influence others to accomplish a goal, an objective
and get things done. He contributes to the organization
and collectiveness of a group.
Regardless of what most people
believe, being a leader is not about power. It is not
about hasseling people or pushing them using fear
tactics. It is about guiding others towards the goal of
the organization. It is organizing everyone and
putting them on the same plane and helping them see the
big picture of the business. You must be a leader not a
tyrant.
First of all, you have to get people to
follow your direction. How do you do this?
People follow when they understand a
clear sense of purpose. Subordinates will only follow you
if they know that you know what you are
doing. If you do not know where you're headed,
chances are they will not follow you at
all.
You must know the vision of the
organization and department. Having a
clear understanding the of hierarchy, knowing
who the superiors are, who to go to, the
organization's goals and objectives, and how the
operation works is the best way to show others that you
are capable.
Being a leader is not only about what
you have others do. It's about what you know, who you
are, and what you are doing. You are an example of
what you're subordinates must be.
Studies have shown that one of
the attributes of good leadership is the trust and
confidence your people have in you. If they
trust you they will go through anything for you and for
the organization.
Trust, respect and confidence is built on
doing not just talking.
The way you deal with your staff, and the
bonds you build will lay the foundation for your
group. The stronger your relationships, the stronger
their trust and respect is in your
abilities.
Communication is key to good leadership.
Without this no one can be a good leader. The
knowledge and experience you have must be clearly
demonstrated to you staff.
You can not be a good leader and unless
you have logic and good judgment. You must be able to
analyze situations, weigh the pros and cons of
your decisions, and actively come up with the proper
solution.
