Mompreneurs -
Moms Building Businesses
By Jean Ann Van Krevelen
For those of you not aware...moms
are now building businesses at an amazing rate. Some are small
ventures, others are large, but one thing is for sure...moms
are becoming more creative and more determined to work for
themselves.
Though it's next to impossible to find statistics to
measure the economic impact, we know that more people than ever
are working from home. (US Census). And we know that 75% of
moms work. (US Bureau of Labor Statistics). And we know that
Mommy Bloggers are one of the largest growing social networks
on the net And truthfully, moms have some secrets that will
give them an edge in the entrepreneurial world.
- Being a parent creates a bond that is unparalleled.
What previously might have been just a desire to have a
more flexible schedule, is now magnified x 10 when
spending time with your child is involved.
- If you are a stay at home mom, you have already
made the decision to take yourself out of the
traditional workforce. Many would-be entrepreneurs are
stuck at this space, afraid of the change and the
uncertainty.
- Moms have to be creative problem-solvers all day,
every day.
- They have to respond quickly, make assessments and
decisions in a timely and effective way.
- Moms are willing to try many things, new things,
seemingly silly things, in order to afford their family
income and be with their kiddos. Check out these moms
who came up withBoogie Wipes..I mean, who but a mom
would develop a product and name it that? And they are
laughing all the way to the bank with an expected $9
million in sales this year. ONE PRODUCT, that is all
their company makes.
- Moms have always known that collaboration and
community is the key to power and success. That is why
this group is one of the most powerful purchasing
niches out there today.
- Finally, moms are determined to succeed. Obviously,
there is a lot at stake when you are caring for a
child. Failure is not an option. And moms are not
afraid to research, ask questions, seek support when
they need it.
If you are a mom looking to become a mompreneur or even a
WAHM (work at home mom), you are in an awesome position to earn
income and create a schedule that allows you to spend time with
your family. You (and me) just happen to be in the right place
at the right time to build a movement that will likely change
the face of the American workforce.
We have always known that moms could have it all...we just
haven't had all of the tools we needed for that to work for all
moms with the advent of the Internet, and more specifically
social media there is no real need to "go" to work or to leave
the house to find support. All kinds of resources are there for
you with a click of the mouse. Go forth, mompreneurs, and start
your businesses!
